GOP Sens. Jon Kyl and Kay Bailey Hutchison said they have introduced a bill that would reward those who take college classes or join the military.
The legislation would reward students with higher status the further along they are in pursuing their education. Those who earn a four-year college degree or complete military service could apply for a permanent visa that wouldn’t put them on a new path to citizenship, but would allow them to join existing lines by getting married to a U.S. citizen or finding another opportunity to adjust their status
Mr. Kyl and Ms. Hutchison said while they opposed Mr. Obama’s move, their bill essentially codifies his actions into law.

Wouldn't it be better to close the borders before they (either GOP or Dem) comes up with a bill? This is crazy... I think this is going to be another straw that breaks the GOP.

One point on the agenda I wrote did offer a chance to become legal residents without a path to citizenship, but ONLY after the border is secured. Anything you do prior to that will serve only to encourage more illegal immigration.

Okay had to go back and read that part again So you are saying if they have been here for 25 years they can stay and keep their family here too? If they have been law abiding residents. Hmmm see that is where I have a problem. Being here illegally is against the law. You see I know some that have been here for that long. They have become citizens...if they want to stay here they should have become citizens like the ones I know. Oh believe me my area is also full of illegal immigrates too. I will definitely have to think on this issue.

Rock is right How about citzens with out voting rights for 12 years 3 election cycles. They are like tresspassing. More counties KILL people for this crime. I think that if they are here and if that is the exstent of the crimes then a fee, must take the test, must pass an English test, must wait 3 election cycles. Only exempt the children born Up to 9 months for the date that the law passes.

I understand the sentiment. My wife and two of my kids are legal immigrants, so the idea of overlooking illegal immigration does not set well with me. I would be most happy to send all illegal immigrants back to where they came from, and I genuinely think that is the right thing to do.
I do have to recognize political realities though, and what I have suggested is something that I think will address the issues the left has raised concerning families that have been here for more than a generation, yet prevents them from using that as a means of increasing Democrat voters.
This allows us to be cognizant of the human aspect of this issue without allowing the left to gain political power from it. They will have to take the deal, or admit the human aspect wasn't their goal. The only thing they're not getting out of the deal is Democrat voters, so they will have to take the deal or admit that was what they were after all along. It also allows us to force the issue of closing the borders, which is, in my opinion, the primary objective.
